NEWCASTLE'S "pocket dynamo" Rose Anjane was gallant in defeat when runner-up to Keila Lee in a fast-run National Futurity heat at Wentworth Park on Monday night.

In her city debut, Rose Anjane displayed the blistering speed Gardens regulars have become accustomed to, peeling off quick first and second sections.

The powerful Keila Lee trailed the Newcastle bitch to the home turn before drawing clear to win by two lengths from Rose Anjane in 30.14, the second-fastest heat time.

The National Futurity is a group 1 event for females with $50,000 on offer to the winner.

Four semi-finals are scheduled for tomorrow night and Rose Anjane faces a tough assignment to qualify for next week's final.

She has drawn box three in the third semi-final and has outstanding bitches drawn either side of her.

Sydney's Bralyn Maisie posted the fastest heat time of 30.04 and has drawn box two.

Bralyn Maisie has won five from seven at Wentworth Park and has speed to burn.

Victoria's crackerjack bitch Pure Burst, winner of two group 1 events, is drawn in box four.

Pure Burst, because of her group 1 victories, was seeded into the semi-final and did not contest a heat.

Newcastle bitches One Tree Hill and Eve will run in the second National Futurity semi-final.

Electrifying Victorian sprinter Slater was the star of the 10 National Derby heats last Saturday night, posting a sizzling 29.81. He will start from the five box in tomorrow night's National Derby semi-final.

? Greyhound Racing NSW's That'll Do promotion, in association with Newcastle radio station NXFM, is off to a successful start.

That'll Do blitzed a fifth-grade field at Maitland last Thursday.

The black dog steps out in race six at The Gardens today.

The plan is for That'll Do to race at the next three Gardens Friday meetings.

That'll Do's progress can be followed by tuning in to NXFM, 106.9FM between 5.30am and 9am, Monday to Friday.

? National Derby winner Brother Knows, Golden Easter Egg winner Eddie Beauchamp, and Sydney Cup victor Royal Riddle, are the three 2006 New South Wales Greyhound of the Year finalists.

The judging panel met on Monday night to select the three finalists.

The 2006 NSW Greyhound of the Year will be announced at a luncheon to be held at Luna Park's Crystal Ballroom on Sunday, February 18.

? With Maitland in recess for the annual show, The Gardens has been called on to host three TAB race meetings this week.

Until the end of February, The Gardens will race each Thursday (TAB), Friday (TAB) and Saturday (non-TAB).
